If your facility experiences intermittent connectivity drops or local gateway unresponsiveness, performing a clean hardware power cycle on the Optical Network Unit (ONU) is the recommended first troubleshooting step.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Disconnect Power: Locate the primary AC power adapter connected to the rear of the ONU gateway unit and disconnect it entirely from the wall outlet or UPS backup strip.
- Wait for Discharge: Leave the unit completely unpowered for a minimum of 30 seconds. This ensures all internal capacitors fully discharge and volatile cache registers are cleared.
- Reconnect Power: Re-insert the AC adapter plug securely into the power port.
- Verify Synchronization: Observe the front status indicator lights. The optical sync indicator (PON / LINK) should transition from flashing amber to solid green within 90 seconds.
What to do if synchronization fails
If the PON indicator continues to flash after 3 minutes, your optical line may have suffered a physical fiber degradation. Please immediately switch to the Incident Ticketing System to dispatch an emergency NOC technician.
